Good Morning students,
My son is still very sick. The vomiting has stopped but his fever is still high. I have put in for a sub.
Lessons for 3rd Period
*helpful student Melanie Bryant or Bobert*
This is a mixed class with 9th -12th graders. Behaviors very wildly. Please let students know that if behavior is out of line, we will be writing essays in silence for the next week as recompense.
Journal: Take a newspaper from the box in the front of the classroom and write brief summaries of current news events or incidents that interest you. (At least 5 different current events, 3-5 sentences each) This can include riots, assassinations, school shootings, refugees, etc.
Read: Witnessing in The Poet's Companion: A Guide to the Pleasures of Writing Poetry by Kim Addonizio and Dorianne Laux. PDF Pages 62-70. Students do not have a copy of text, we read out loud and discuss. Have a student read out and then discuss examples.
Write: Take a newspaper account of an incident-a riot, an assassination, a bombing-and imagine that you are one of the participants. Rewrite the account as a first person poem using some of the details from the account. Do it again for another examples. (2 poems total)
Share: Peer Edit with one person.
Homework: Revise and type poems. Ensure Portfolio and Journal up to date for grading on Monday.
Lesson Plan for 5th Period and 7th period
*helpful student in 5th Angela Ortiz or Luis* Mrs. Vaughn is my co-teacher in this period and she will lead the lesson during the period.
*helpful student in 7th Shakira Ayala or Micah Galarza* Only 20 students when they are all there. They are chatty.
*Let both classes know that bad reports equal no fencing lessons when I come back.*
Review: Review answers to book work with students to ensure comprehension. (Page 560 in teachers edition. The answers to each question are provided in the margins. Review the vocabulary words with them, review the questions in text book. There are stick note tabs for each act in my teachers edition)
Quiz: Then, have students clear their desks except for a paper and a pencil. They will be taking a quiz on act II. In my small filing cabinet next to next, bottom drawer, Act II quizzes are in a file folder labels Act II Quiz, the pages are yellow. Please have students take the quiz.
Trade and Grade: Once all the students have completed the quiz, have them trade and grade. A copy of quiz and answer sheet is provided. Please, read the question and answer choices out loud, let the students answer as whole group. Then tell them the correct answer. Some will be more vocal than others. Luis and Angela Ortiz are great resources in 5th; Shakira and Micah in 7th.
Scavenger Hunt Worksheet: Once students have completed both the book work and quiz, have students complete the attached Shakespeare Scavenger Hunt worksheet. Please print and make copies for 5th and 7th (50 copies). They may use notes to try and get the sheet completed. It is due by the end of class.
Cross word puzzle: If they finish that and, then assign the crossword puzzle. Pages 2-3 of the PDF, the word bank is on page 2 and the crossword on page 3. Need 50 copies, front and back, of this as well. Anything they do not finish in class is homework.
Grades: I will collect their book work and journals next class for a grade.
